Mark 16:15

And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

"Preach the word and when necessary use words."
I have heard that many times over the years, and honestly, I tend to disagree with it or at least the last part (when necessary use words).
We tend to add to God's word with all sorts of things, like PowerPoint presentations, videos, cool graphics, and entertainment and on and on. Now these things do have a place as God has gifted many to use them in the right context.

But here is something to think about. If you take away all the cool graphical computer stuff (PowerPoint, videos, etc…), all the special little plays and music. All the free food and drinks and everything else you are throwing into the mix Sunday morning. How much time is actually spent presenting the gospel in simple preaching? 10, 15, maybe 20 or even 30 minutes?
Is the preaching of the gospel taking a back seat to all this other stuff?
If so, I have one simple word for you, "Repent" and come back to your first love.

  • Rev 2:4-5 "Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. "Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place--unless you repent.

  • If you think about it, why do you think so many do not come back to church other then Easter or Christmas? Maybe because they don't know what it's really like to be at church, because all they see is entertainment, which overshadows the gospel. Hey, they get enough entertainment from the world everyday.

Let's also redo the saying that I opened today's teaching with, to be "Preach the gospel and use plenty of God's words"

  • Eph 1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
