Prov 4:25-27 (NLT)

25 Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. 26 Mark out a straight path for your feet; then stick to the path and stay safe. 27 Don't get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.

Have you ever decided that you were going to do something, and as you started to do it things just seemed to get in the way?
People make New Years resolutions, but have you stayed with it all year?
Maybe you decided that you would read through the Bible this year, but only lasted a week or two, then other things seemed to get in the way.
What has happened is that you lost sight of your priorities.

Notice verse 25 again: "Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you."
Notice it doesn't say to look around.

Think about a horse in a race that has blinders on. The purpose of blinders is so the horse will not look around and be distracted by things around it; and in doing so; it focuses on the finish line, which is straight ahead.
Sometimes we need blinders so the things of this world do not distract us.

Going back to the example of reading the Bible in a year.
The intention was good, but the things of the world distracted you. Maybe a new show on TV, or a new friend. What about a hobby, or the latest best selling novel.
You need to ask yourself, what is taking the place of my priorities with the Lord.

Here is a pair of blinders you can put on right now from an old Hymn:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace!
