Romans 8:1

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

Like you, I get e-mails with scripture and people telling me to forward it on to ten people or so. The e-mails say that if you love Jesus that you will send it and not stop the chain trying to battle satan with these e-mails.
Do you know what I do with these e-mails when I get them? I do not forward them, but rather I delete them.

"So are you saying that you don't love Jesus by not forwarding these e-mails?"

Actually, I am saying that I do love Jesus by not forwarding them. You see, if I forward it to someone, will they feel convicted or condemned if they do not forward it to others?
Should I put that type of condemnation upon a person and use scripture to do it?
I think the answer is in today's devotional verse.

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

The flesh wants to witness by e-mails, but the Spirit never says anything in the bible about sending or forwarding e-mails. Instead, it says:

  • 1 Thess 2:4 (NLT) For we speak as messengers who have been approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He is the one who examines the motives of our hearts.

  • We are to speak the word of God and let our lives be a witness to others, not the e-mails we forward because someone thinks that we should.
So, instead of forwarding these e-mails, why not try responding to the e-mail telling the sender that you prefer to let your life and mouth preach the gospel.
After all, whom do you know that was ever saved by reading an e-mail that was a chained e-mail?
Also these e-mails say to pray for the person who sent it to you, which is a good thing, but also, especially in the work place, we should be praying for these people anyway, whether they are believers or not.
I know part of my prayer time each morning is for my co-workers, both the saved and the unsaved.

So, do not feel condemned if you do not forward that e-mail,

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus

Rather pray for those who receive it, that their life would reflect Jesus and not their e-mails.
