Matt 24:36-37

36 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. 37 "But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Today during my personal devotional time in God's word, I was reading here in Matthew and came across these verses, with Jesus telling of His return.
And I reflected back on a time when I was around 10-13 years old.
I remember being at the store and as I was coming out of the store this young man came up to me and said that Jesus would be returning that summer and that him and a bunch of believers were going to a certain place to wait for His return.
Then he asked me for some money to help pay his expenses (Yes this is a true story). So me being young and unknowing about what God's word said, I believed him and gave him a couple of dollars, which was a lot for this time, (about 30 years ago).

But here it is 30 years later, and I have to wonder if (this now older man) is still waiting in that field for Jesus to return?
I know this sound ridicules but some people believe that they can calculate the time when Jesus will return.
I even remember last year, looking at a web site where a woman said that Jesus would be returning last August, that was about a year ago.
There is nothing wrong with wanting Jesus to return and take us home, but Jesus clearly taught that NO MAN knows the day or time when Jesus will return.

Today's devotional is not really complete unless you read the rest of the verses. Read the rest of Jesus teaching on His return and know that you or no one else will know the time of his return. But the way Jesus described that final days we are in it.

  • Matt 24:38-44 38 "For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 "and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 "Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 "Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 "Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 "But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 "Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
